Sheshnag Lake - A Short Travel Guide


Sheshnag Lake is a high-altitude alpine Lake in Kashmir valley. It is located in the Anantnag district in Jammu and Kashmir. The Lake is about 23 km from Pahalgam. The Sheshnag Lake is an outstanding tourist destination and ancient pilgrim place which sees lot of trekkers during the summer season. This is the most sought out destination for trekking in Kashmir


The Sheshnag Lake is surrounded by seven green mountains and glaciers which is why the Lake looks greenish and beautiful in color. The water of the lake is clean which is drinkable The Lake is 1.1km long and has 0.7km in width. The lake can be reached only by either a pony ride or by a trekking to this lake. This lake has a twin lake called gorgeous Tulian Lake which falls in its vicinity of the mountains. 


Best time to visit Sheshnag Lake 

It is good to visit Sheshnag Lake between April and September for the best experiences as the weather remains pleasant during these months. During winters the Lake remains frozen because of the temperature fall. It should be visited in the summers.


How to reach Sheshnag Lake ?

The Sheshnag Lake is about 120 km from the (Srinagar) summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. 17 km from Pahalgam, and 11k from Chandanwari campsite. It is reachable through a trekking route. It offers you beautiful views of mountains and streams during the trek. 


Best Time to do Sheshnag Lake. 

If you are planning to trek Sheshnag Lake it is best in the summers as the weather from April to September remains very pleasurable and satisfying.


How difficult is Sheshnag Lake Trek?

This trek is a difficult trek. It has all the ascent till the lake and then a complete descent to the base camp down. 


How is the weather during Sheshnag Lake ?

The weather remains pleasant in the summer season and cold in winter. The Lake remains frozen in winter due to heavy snowfall. It is very difficult to trek Sheshnag during winters because it is not accessible in winters.


Sheshnag Lake Trek Itinerary

Day 1;-Chandanwari to zojibal

The first day of your trek starts from Chandanwari to Zojibal. It is a 9-10 km trek, after completing the walk you enter the beautiful valley of mountains and forests along the River Lidder. you may rest and have lunch between the mountains and streams.

Day 2;-Zojibal to Nagakoti

The distance between Zojibal to Nagakoti is only 2km. It is moderate to climb because the altitude increases by 300 feet. You can cover this short trek within 1 hour with some photo sessions. After your arrival to Sheshnag, you will forget all your tiredness as the first glimpse of this beautiful Lake makes you feel pleasant.

Day 3;-Sheshnag to Pahalgam

Time to return to Pahalgam after spending the night at the Lake. Follow the same way back to Chandanwari, you can take a break after arriving at Chandanwari and start your trek again and follow the same route to reach Pahalgam.
